Gymnasium an der Gartenstraße (closed 2016)

Since the spring of 1996, I am responsible for the homepage of the grammar school "Gymnasium an der Gartenstraße" ... . Within the framework of the project " Schools on the Net ", which was initiated at

that time, we accepted the offer of the provider AOL to get free internet. This approach was based on a modem connection. ISDN  or even DSL was not yet mentioned. Since the use of this access was limited to a PC, the Internet for teaching was initially meaningless. So I came up with the idea to present our school and put on the internet at the address at members.aol.com/gymga a home page for the "Gymnasium an der Gartenstraße" , the first school website in Mönchengladbach. I received a lot of feedback and encouragement from former students, for example, but also by students of other schools.

Later the AOL access has been replaced by an ISDN access (free of charge from Telekom) and web space at the Fachhochschule Niederrhein (University of Applied Sciences). Some years later our school also got its own domain (www.gymga.de), which meant that I also took the email accounts besides taking care of the home page.

Until the beginning of the year 2014, the website was based entirely on HTML and CSS and PHP and Javascript scripts. However, the volume of the homepage always grew up and I needed too much time to keep it actual. So I created a new version of our website using Joomla 3.3.x. The implemented user management makes the distribution of the setting of contributions and updates over many shoulders possible. Furthermore, access to servers or documents can be granted for different user groups.
